Ryder truck Lease equipment issue

You have no rights really. You can drive it to a hotel and get a room for the night, but that's about it.
Anything else is working on the truck, so On Duty (Driving).
There really is no exemption for this.

 

You can try to set trailer brakes and release tractor brakes, that will sometimes trick a truck into idling that normally shuts down

 

Call Ryder and advise them the truck needs fixing. It's their truck and you're leasing it from them. Hence you are the customer. But since it is Ryder's truck , you have to follow their procedures to get it fixed.

If you as the customer, are not happy with this arrangement, then you, as the customer, can make a change to a vendor that suits your needs. Ryder is not obligated to fix the problem in the manner that you want. Ryder is only obligated to fix the problem.

Any time utilized to address the issue should shown as " On duty not driving" because you're attending to the needs of truck. Even if you are not the person turning the wrenches.

Now if you drop it off and get a hotel room; then you can show yourself as "off duty" because you have left the vehicle in the care of someone else.

It is all subject to interpretations.

 

Don't blame him. You put his company at major risk. If you would have gotten into a wreck, he could loose the company. Doesn't matter who's fault.

Should have went to a hotel so as not to run illegally.

 

I'll be blunt, if I were the safety person I would have written you up.
