The boss insists we always use fuel additives everytine we fuel up. Ive always used Howe's Power Kleaner (or the antigel if the truckstop didnt have any kf the Power Kleaner). With how variable our MPG is based on route and how heavy our trailer is I dont know if treated vs untreated diesel makes any difference. And the other question is ...does it really clean the injectors the way they say?

My experience with most cleaners is that they dont always work as advertised. I've noticed that interior car cleaners (you know, the stuff you use for yer ppastoc/vinyl) works better withbcleaning glass than any glass cleaner I've tried (weird right?). So, I'm fairly skeptical about fuel treatments. Right now I'm trying Motorkote UCL (just put some in the tank). Next I'll try their cetane boost.

I decided to jump the gun and bought some of that Motorkote friction reducer. So far, unless it is just my imagination, my truck seems to run a bit quieter and perhaps a bit smoother. Again, with our variable MPG it is hard to tell if it is helping any in that area like friction modifiers are suppose to do. I guess I'm going to have to science the #### out this to really know. Like write down road and wind conditions, up or down hill, and loaded weight and then repeat trip with the same conditions...one with untreated and one with treated diesel.

Have any of y'all had any noticeable improvements with fuel/oil additives?

Are you tracking your fuel milage? Do a 30 day average, here is a great place to start, Letstruck.com. Get signed up on fuelgauges, it's free and keep track of every tank. Then after 30 days of tracking try your experiment. I use a fuel additive now that not only raised my fuel mileage by more than half mile to the gallon but also only produces about half the soot going into the DPF system so you get a lot cleaner running engine. My DEF consumption is also up over 300MPG. I will not mention what I use because most on this board will call it nothing but snake oil and that's there opinion but I have real world numbers to back it up along with a lot of other O/O who use it.

I just purchase premium gas and add either one of two particular fuel cleaners to keep the truck from sooting up and becoming a smoky Joe that we call it here.

    Intothesunset Thanks this.

Max Mileage - Fuel Borne Catalyst. Here is the product I was talking about, The cost seems high when you first see it but the ROI at least for me is more than double the cost of the additive. You only use 1oz per 25 gallons of fuel. Usually I put in 6 oz per 150 gal fill up witch is about 12 dollars but I get back 25-30 dollars in fuel savings plus the added benefit of keeping the DPF system cleaner. Before i would try this your going to want to get a good 30 day average otherwise i don't think you can really tell how well something is making a difference in overall performance. Good Luck I need to get work.
