Always make sure you have plenty of following distance (for your speed) and pay close attention to the traffic not just in front of you, but further ahead, especially when driving through cities where traffic is known for coming to a complete stop right after a hill or curve. For the rare cases where a vehicle makes an improper move and takes away your following distance and brakes on you, then that’s when your dash cam comes into play. Again, for folks reading this, get one. You’ll thank me later.

There is no such thing as a "minor rear end collision ".
He was not paying attention, and driving safely. He should have been fired, so his employer was correct to do so.
At 70 years old he is due for retirement anyway. If you need more income why don't you both get a job at Walmart, cleaning homes, or something. In my company policies, are automatic termination for a rear end collision, ticketed or not. As are mandatory retirement at age 65. Those rules are clearly stated in their employment contract they sign as well.

Only going 62 is why you have people constantly tailgating you, if you'll use your right foot on the far right pedal and join the rest of us in 2019 not 1979 you won't have that problem as often.

My husband is a very prideful man. He told me it was minor. I guess I wanted to believe that. But the repercussion is telling me a different story!!!!

I had a minor rear end collision and was fired, so I went to craigs list and was rolling again for a small company. After 3 years went by I was good to go back to the mega company if I wanted.

Did you get a ticket? If so, how did you handle that?

I’m used to it already, and I am aware it’s because I drive slower than most traffic. There are times I do 70 or 72 when the load needs it. I hate it, though. I don’t know how you guys do it on a daily basis. Every time I do it, I’m super alert and constantly passing vehicles.

I don’t know how that’s possible that at 70 and in trucking for 23 years, you can’t afford to retire. It’s one of two things. Either you made some downright lousy investments or stupid purchases, or you’re just spoiled and don’t want to stop living some sort of life of “luxury”. He can draw full SS benefits at 70 and assuming you’re not some trophy wife that’s only 45, I’m assuming you’re old enough to draw it too.

Have YOU been working? Having 2 incomes these days is common, it’s not 1955 anymore where the woman cleans the house all day while the husband works.

As others have said, basically starting over at 70 in trucking is pretty much a lost cause with the companies that would take him. He’s coming off of a preventable accident and like it or not, age discrimination is alive and well and a much more common form of discrimination than others. He’d seriously be better off drawing SS than going to some craphole like Western Express.

They say to save your $ for a rainy day. Well here it is, it’s raining...
