I don't know why people are giving advice about tailgating, or proper driving?
The accident already happened now time to handle it. Most people have not experienced rear ending a vehicle.
You can drive a company truck as 1099, many people loathe it. Some like it.
But I am not sure how your husband's record will look when all is settled. And how insurance will view it. He may need to lease op not lease purchase, or if you can look for lease purchase of pre DPF truck, or ELD exempt truck there are many places to find that. Or if possible to put money down for a bank loan to buy old style truck and lease on to a carrier that pays percentage. That is what I see as a possiblity.

This may be another idea.
See if your husband can drive a sprinter van.
Most of them do not run any logo, company name, or DOT numbers. Yet they haul freight for $1 per mile, and don't use and log book either. The truth is what it is.D.Tibbitt, JolliRoger, MartinFromBC and 2 others Thank this. -
Your husband has been committed to you for how long? Longer than these internet clowns telling you how your entire life shouldve gone differently without knowing one #### thing about you. If your husband needed the internets opinion he could log on himself to get it. Put your faith in the man you married and stand by him, for better or for worse right? The Lord will provide.

Dump trucks if you have any around you. There are a ton of em around here and I know they aren't picky. I have heard they don't pay the best but it would get him rolling until he gets his current situation cleared up and can look for something better.
