(Well, I may be wrong about the 100%, I think Uber has a few in one downtown area being used as shuttles on a defined route. Still level 4, not level 5 self driving.)MartinFromBC and SteveScott Thank this. -
And about 100% self driving. Don't forget most regulations requires human behind wheel. As soon as company will lobby to get rid of that rule , trucks will be tested 100% on its own -
OMG’s what are we all going to do??? Better get out of trucking now so we’re not all looking for a job at the same time when the self-driving trucks take over.

Before everyone gets in a twist over self driving trucks; think what would happen the first time a glitch in the system causes the truck to malfunction and go into a school bus, or a family in a van. Aside from the obvious tragedy, you gotta know every single government agency that has anything to do with trucking will immediately mandate the presence of a human onboard "just in case". And even if they didn't, it would be a pretty safe bet that the trucking company's insurance carriers would insist on it for the same reason. In the airline industry, those commercial jets have the ability to fly completely by auto-pilot; including take off and landing. Yet every time one goes up, there's always a full flight crew. Why? "Just in case". I'm sure trucking companies will look for ways to maximize automation; but I'm not ready to get put out to pasture by the HAL-2000 just yet. Just my humble opinion.

In truck situation you can pretty much shut it off in a middle of a highway. Yes it will block traffic but not going to kill anyone
PS and don't forget that pilots have union, so it will not work as ez to make planes autonomous, like truck drivers who can't agree on anything -
Why the heck to we need to argue about when self driving trucks will be commonplace on our roads? Nobody, and I mean NOBODY knows the answer to that question, and people who swallow the hype that they'll be out there tomorrow feel the need to convince the world that all of our jobs will be gone next year. Just let it play out, and if we're all out of work next year they can feel vindicated. Until then, just let it go.
