What would cause a whole in the bottom of a DEF filter on a 2019 freightliner cascadia . Is it possible for a rock to penetrate filter while going down the road. Prime inc is trying to stick me with the bill saying road debris... please help looking at $2000 tow and shop

If you are an employee driver, I'm not sure Prime can charge you for any damage.
I don't know anything about the hole in the def filter.
I would think for something to penetrate the def filter, it would make more damage to surrounding wires and hoses.

Read your lease. It will say if you are responsible for damage to the truck.

Is the hole from road debris or could it be a rusted hole that is covered by warranty?
    Good luck

My newest truck is a 2016, There is a shield that mostly covers the DEF filter and cap. But it would be possible for a rock to get to it. And it is plastic or Polly, or similar etc.

If it’s in your contract to pay for something like that.. a rock that came off the road... then I think I would be looking to rewrite the contract...

Why? Isn't the point behind doing the L/P to act like an O/O? If the same thing happened to an O/O, who would pay for it? So if you're pretending to be an O/O, why should it be any different?

If you don't want to be financially liable for what may happen to the truck, be a company driver. If you want to play O/O, then you're assuming that liability.

Probably road debris. Rocks, mudflap hangers, trailer hitches, whatever falls off of some vehicle. Sometimes you can't avoid them if they are bouncing around.

Not covered by truck warranty then Prime isn't going to pay for it, unless you are a company driver, then your FM would pay for it as they lease the truck.

Just an unexpected cost of business. Sorry bud.

Most DEF filters are inside the tank so not sure how you'd know if there's a hole in the filter?

Could it be a factory installed rubber or plastic or metal plug fell out?
