Why do moving companies have extended sleepers?

Most moving trucks seem to be extended sleepers and my wife was wondering why. I figured it had something to do with saving time by remaining on site during long load and unloads. Am I wrong?

It's so they can pick up hitchhikers.

I would guess the same two days on site. Both ends. Or trade shows. Same thought.

I always assumed it was so the moving crew had a place to relax and cool off.

Might be due to that truck being their home for extended periods of time. Only person I've known to pull a mover spent 2 to 3 months out at a time.

I have seen movers spend a month at a time parked on party row, waiting to get a load.
There are more alternatives and competition in the moving business now, so I don't know if it still pays enough for them to wait on loads like that or not, these days.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Been in the moving and storage business for about 30 years. Not sure what your talking about, when you say "most"
Yes there are plenty of big bunks, but certainly not most. When on the road, at the agents or truck stops. I see everything from old cab overs to brand new 2020's, with HUGE big bunks. Guys with big bunks tend to get them claiming to be self contained (own sink/shower/toilet, full size fridge, cook top and counter)
However I've noticed the bigger the sleeper, the more often I see it at a hotel.

I have always gotten the largest truck I could. Because like most bed buggers I am a pack rat and 3 weeks out is a short trip.
Also always gotten two bunks, because between wife/kids and a ride along helper. 75% of the time there is always a passenger.

CR England could use those for training. You could fit eight students in there, at least.
