This isn't rocket science, just looking for a little info to make sure I get the right stuff.
2015 780 with Meritor MT140?? axles. I need to change my fluid, never been done. Not getting high temps or problems, just PM.
How much per axle and what gear oil? I definitely want to use synthetic.
I'm going to call Volvo today and get this info from them but wanted to verify with people who have done it. Hoping to save money and buy the oil somewhere else too.
Thanks
Gear oil change in both axles

Not sure on the capacity of those rears, but there should be a service manual on meritors website. I've always used Chevron meritor spec 75/90 full synthetic. My rt46-160 rears take the better part of 2 5 gallon pails for the pair (if it helps)
MartinFromBC and 86scotty Thank this. -
Thanks Jeff, helps a lot. Any idea what you pay for them? I actually don't know yet if Volvo's price is good or bad. I've got to call around.

Looks like you are right on schedule. Says with synthetic 500,000 miles or every four years.
biofumes, Newto Trucking and Rob100100 Thank this. -
Capacity is little less bit then 5 gallon bucket. So you need 2. Rest of oil you can use for trailer hubs.

I would think the best price would be at a cardlock that sells bulk oils etc....but you never know, Volvo or another OEM shop might have a screaming deal. I would go for whatever oil brand wise that is the best price.....just make sure it's on meritors approved oil list -
I use 75w90 Chevron syn gear.
Buy a bucket per differential you have, so tandem is 2, tri drive 3.
And please spend the money on a good pump, not one of them cheap junk pumps i see some people using.86scotty Thanks this. -
I have been through several of the cheap pumps over the years. The latest one I have is pretty good. Problem is when pumps sit and have fluids trapped in them and the cheap hoses/o-rings/etc. start to break down. The one I got was cheap enough to just replace every few years if it dies.
If you know the name/brand of yours I'd love to know. I'll be getting mine out tomorrow and will look. I don't remember what kind it is.
Volvo has 5 gal. of synthetic for $118. I'm going that route unless Fleetpride can beat their price in the morning. Those are the only two places I know of to get it in my town.
