I thought that was true everywhere. I am surprised they issued him a 34,000 lb plate at all without an IRP

These are quite common, affectionately known as "fix it" tickets. Meaning....if you can show that you fixed the issue, the court can decide to dismiss the ticket. They're more commonly given for broken tail lights, a drivers license you forgot at home but could give the officer the number and he looked it up and it was current and in good standing, etc.

So fixing it two days later doesn't "prove you didn't have it two days earlier" it shows that you made an effort to "fix" the issue. Which is quite possibly all the court cares about. That's dependent on the court and the case at hand.

Why don't people get this ... you driver interstate you need apportioned plates. When you just drive intrastate, you can have weight registered plates.

You can pay the fine or try to get it reduced but you will still need apportioned plates and that will be as much as the fine.

Whatever. Running without the required licensing is NOT a "fix it" ticket. It isnt the same as a tail light. Licensing requirements are supposed to be addressed when you start the business and maintained while you operate that business. Licenses do not blow out or get broken, or suddenly quit working. And this issue wasnt in good standing but innocently forgotten at home. I have been in this industry long enough to know what a "fix it" ticket is. The OP's situation is not one.

That depends on the officer. If he wanted to, he could have written it as a fix it ticket. You have no idea, you were not there.

The reason you were weighed is because regardless of what your registered for in what ever state your from you were not registered for PA at the time of traffic stop. All you can do is plead ignorance and show it was corrected and hope for a break

I second that... Not sure about PA but in Virginia I have done this before and taken the registration to court to have it dismissed.
