Maybe a silly question but you keep a printer in truck for BOL & scan it to Broker or shipper?

Can you do the BOL all electronically via email or scanning? Or you must print & have a physical copy?

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

I had Brothers scanner at one time. It was the DS620 and worked great to scan into the laptop.

You can't use a scan app that crops, adjusted color, details for clarity & use that?

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Yes. Absolutely. It is as must, if you are an independent and need to keep up with the paperwork in real time.
It is easy too - just plug it in to the inverter. I have ordinary Epson - all in printer I picked up at Best Buy for $50. I glued it on the top of the refrigerator that is powered by the same inverter. Truth is that most of the staff can be done with a smart phone, but for better image quality, the printer is better. Sometimes, I need to print an additional physical copy of a BOL.

I am pretty sure there's an app for that. Uses your smartphone camera and it's very detailed. Can't remember the name though.

Yes you can scan from the truck and email that is what we do. I’m currently using Tiny Scanner app on my tablet it seems to work pretty good and is simple to use.
Just take a picture of the BOL, crop it, and send it. The app converts it to PDF for you.

I use a IPhone app and iPad app, scan and email or fax with another app.

I use a canon wifi enabled all-in-one a lot. I cross the border and use it to scan in my customs paperwork and print out my ACI so I can cross. Plus I have a B/L template on my phone for blank bills of lading the company needs us to produce for empty trailer moves(we get paid to bring our empty glass trailers back to the plant). The app for my phone even has a scanning tab so you can scan an exact copy of something...sometimes a camera shot isn't exact enough for some people...like customs brokers
