I've been told that it's bad to let the fan clutch cycle on and off while idling on a 10 hr or 34 hr break.

Is it really better to just turn the fan on and leave it on?

It uses a lot more fuel with the fan on, I noticed and I also fast idle at 1100 RPM.

    Thank you!

Flip the fan on and it will save wear on fan clutch and keep a/c colder?

Diesel Dave and Edjahman Thank this.

I haven't had a switch I could turn it on with in a long time.

Ours all had the fast idle turned down some, the Evolution idles at 850 max. Not all that noticeable when the fan kicks in.

    Edjahman Thanks this.

Yeah OK thank you. I was just wondering if it really makes that much of a difference as far as wear and tear goes on the fan clutch.

Depends on the fan clutch and the idle speed , but the clutch 8s designed for higher rpm than you are idling at, I tried to minimise it by running the AC harder if it was bothering me. Otherwise, I don't worry about it.

A lot less wear and tear on the clutch to leave it on. And people around you trying to sleep will appreciate it also.
Nothing worse then a fan cycling on/off all night long when parked beside a guy trying to sleep

2 speed fan hubs drop the cycle time considerably. 1 speed is drag from magnets, usually enough to keep coolant and a/c in check. Second speed locks in like a normal fan hub

    spsauerland and swaan Thank this.
