I've been told that it's bad to let the fan clutch cycle on and off while idling on a 10 hr or 34 hr break.
Is it really better to just turn the fan on and leave it on?
It uses a lot more fuel with the fan on, I noticed and I also fast idle at 1100 RPM.
Thank you!

Flip the fan on and it will save wear on fan clutch and keep a/c colder?
Diesel Dave and Edjahman Thank this. -
I haven't had a switch I could turn it on with in a long time.
Ours all had the fast idle turned down some, the Evolution idles at 850 max. Not all that noticeable when the fan kicks in.Edjahman Thanks this. -
Yeah OK thank you. I was just wondering if it really makes that much of a difference as far as wear and tear goes on the fan clutch.

Depends on the fan clutch and the idle speed , but the clutch 8s designed for higher rpm than you are idling at, I tried to minimise it by running the AC harder if it was bothering me. Otherwise, I don't worry about it.

A lot less wear and tear on the clutch to leave it on. And people around you trying to sleep will appreciate it also.
Nothing worse then a fan cycling on/off all night long when parked beside a guy trying to sleepRoberts450, spsauerland and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
2 speed fan hubs drop the cycle time considerably. 1 speed is drag from magnets, usually enough to keep coolant and a/c in check. Second speed locks in like a normal fan hub
