Leave them running while working on them all the time.
I thought I trimmed my thumb down for a second when the fan on the alt. rubbed the end of it sunday, while putting a bolt back in the alt.

I don't know if the OP ever heard of the story about how two mechanics were killed back in the late 80's or early 90's when the driver got into the truck and accidentally started it up without checking if it was in gear.

One mechanic was working on a front axle or spring problem so he put the front axle up on jack stands, took the wheels off and had his coworker helping him under the truck to fix the problem. They both were under the front axle wrenching on something. The driver got into the truck to wait wanting to listen to the radio, but accidentally hit start position with the key which just nudged the truck enough that it rocked and took the truck backward enough to tip the stands and allowing the truck to fall off of them, killing the two guys under the axle.

I know the driver who this happened to, well he wasn't a driver any more. After all that happened he admitted he was distracted and it was habit to turn the key to the run side and not the accessory side.

They are so nice but I don't like being under them. Hell I don't even like being under my pickup or suburban on a lift. It does make fluid changes easier and you can poke around a lot easier when you are doing inspections, it's just a matter of learning to trust them.

I've been under a truck on a portable lift one time, career day at the local community college, walked under there, looked up and said, "you know that's a lot of weight up there, I believe I'll go stand over here now not under that."

If I was a mechanic I wouldn't be under a truck with a driver anywhere near the cab. My life isn't worth your comfort.

Anybody ever wonder why the bible has so many apocalyptic books in it? With the massive, and ever increasing amount of willful stupidity in this world, it takes an apocalyptic event to restore order and peace.

  9. this was trailer work... not truck work where they now have adopted it even if your truck is sticking out of the shop...

If the truck is still connected it's still all the same vehicle....
Sorry, if you want the comfort then drop the trailer and pull up a bit until nothing touches. Otherwise it's pure not caring about if the mechanic dies just so you are a bit more comfortable.
Talk about the "It's all about me" generation. Well they got it from watching their parents....

    FlaSwampRat and roshea Thank this.
  11. I think everybody is totally missed the point of this thread originally
all I said was loves has a new policy. They never used to have it before how hard is that to comprehend..
they never used to before they used to let you if they were working and changing a tire you could disconnect your airline to run your truck do you understand that...
they change like everybody else I was just simply saying they changed it and as usual the whole post got completely effed up
