Ready to go from OTR to Oil Field.

I’ll second that, it’s true. I have a friend that broke out in the oil fields in TX a couple years ago. Drove for an owner op that paid him 3k weekly. Responsible for his own taxes and what not, but they worked the hell out of him.

 

Here in PA when the frac sand was a big deal, we had drivers here making $2500-3500 a week. And we're not a 1099 outfit, so you didn't worry about keeping 30% back for taxes.

 

It’s 6 one way half a dozen the other. If you think you might want to be a consultant or company man one day, get some down hole experience. Labor positions might start a little lower as a worm but if can easy rack up crazy overtime and make more than a lot of drivers.

If not go drive.

I work for a company that’s known for being on the low side of pay and I still avg $1500/Wk BUT I’m not micro managed, everybody’s cool, I can do a multitude of things to stay busy and make hours, so I got no complaints. I haul septic and freshwater in a straight truck, drive a flatbed and go out with crane operators, just depends on what’s going on that day.

I do pretty well even after taxes, insurance 401k etc and I’m home with the family every night.

 

Not in the same truck I hope.

If you're familiar with buying and selling, margins, etc. then have you considered a marketing position?

 

I think Oil Field driving is much healthier than OTR. In OTR my legs were getting torn down. All that sitting for long periods. And the legs are half the heart. Oil Field is much healthier for me.
As I understand. Working the rigs is much more of a fight than working. I stay away from them.

 

Op don,t believe everything you here about the oil field. A lot of smoke and mirrors. Talk of 2k a week in tx., is a joke. Very few make that, 5 yrs ago wages where a lot better. I was in west tx. For 4 months crude hauler tester, no one is making anything out there. In part drivers thinking 2k is a lot of money is part of the problem. In 1994 if I ever got a check as low as 2,500 we would shut the horizontal drill rig down. Checks are 5,800 to7,800 &38,000 a week- out of country bonus.
