Besides that, you would have to change your avatar if you got a new truck. lol

I ran into a problem with an older truck yesterday, not my problem and it would not be a problem at all in the lower 48.
The volvo dealer called and ask if I knew of any shop that would or even could work on a series 60 detroit. It turned out this gal has one aqnd the ONLY place in town that can even hook up to one and get the codes is the freightliner ,westernstar dealer, and they can't look at her for over a week at least. lol

She probably would tell me to get a new truck lol.
I keep coming back to getting something I'm comfortable with and that's older trucks. I would like the comforts of a newer truck and hopefully less of a to do list on the truck, but I don't think I could ever just slap it on the dash and say she's just a good ole girl when I know any morning it may derate and leave me hanging.

I worked for a company that purchased 13 brand new international daycabs in 2012. Within the first 3 months all but one had to go in for an issue and 2 were towed. By the end of 6 months we kept 3 rentals because we always had 2-3 trucks at international permanently rotating out.

I'm in a town of 60,000 in Idaho, and there's one place that can work on a S60, and they haven't had the same mechanic for more than 60 days in the last four years. Pity the person that goes to that "authorized Detroit" shop. It's a problem everywhere.

LMFAO you got a good one if you get 3,000 miles before going to back to the dealer and losing 2 days to a engine light. Then they will send you on your way and it will be back on in 250 miles.

You must have the worst luck of anyone on earth if every new truck you had broke down within days. I know many many people who have between them bought dozens of new trucks, and most of them have had zero or only small issues in their first year or two. I have six newer trucks, and not a single check engine light or break down with any of them, they are 2016s and 2018s.
You really need to carry a rabbit's foot or something.

I buy older trucks n run em but they do need constant maintenance yes, but it’s paid for nobody can take it away if I lose all my work. Older guy at work bought a brand new 2015 w900L, just turned over 1 million kms and he’s still paying it off, motors been done top end at 100k, bottom end at 500k, 7 fan hubs, 3 rads,2 clutches first at 300k, 2 turbos ,just spent 12000 fixing rear structures gaskets and steering, last safety before that was over 10g needed leaf springs n tons of other stuff, now in the shop for more transmission wrk, he’s basically just working to keep it on the rd.

So does he just drive it like the cops are chasing him all the time? That is an insane list of repairs for 620k miles. I’d be willing to bet he’d be doing most of what’s on that list to an older truck too.
