If u ever go down in the winter time or during some ice fog it makes a good photo. Its a beautiful site looking off the mountain to miles and miles of nothing but pure white, i had a prime driver show me how to take good pictures , he had a whole camera set up , like a pro. I guess when u drive that slow likeprime u gotta lot of time to kill . ive been wanting to buy a real nice camera like he had but never got around to it

2 feet of snow filthy icing coming down and quite the uproar.

Three people with long guns suitable for elk etc coming up the shoulder on the high curve. Amazing. (Westbound where you almost point east a moment.)

Do you not trust what your dad is telling you and has alre ady done. Heck we used to heavy haul without jakes. Jakes go out occasionally and on grades much more serious than anything you will ever find on an interstate.
If you think the jakes on that N14 are not very impressive, wait till you get them noismakers on that c model.

I just spent $1400 on the Jake's themselves and a kit that supposedly had everything I needed to install them. But when I called cat yesterday to see where they were on the truck they told me they were still looking for a few more parts they needed for install that may be discontinued. I'm supposed to hear from them today to see if they found the parts or if I have to go back scouring the internet to find them. Believe me I'm trying to get them installed but apparently ain't an easy thing to get parts for which I wasn't expecting being that it's a catapillar lol. Figured parts would be galore for it. It's my first cat engine I've owned up till now I've had nothing but N14 Cummins and a few 60 series Detroit.

Iirc, there are 3 different jakes that will fit that engine, noisy, a little noisier and noisiest. The best one had a lifetime problem and I do belive it was discontinued.
best and easiest on something like that is a salvage yard, all parts are there, then put a new kit in them.

It used to be tha standard, to go down the hill in one gear lower than what we could climb it in. I do not think that works today, as we climb them a LOT faster than we used to.lol

Your dad's advice is correct. Go much slower and keep light steady brake pressure so your speed does not increase. This works much better and keeps your brakes cooler than the other technique where you llet the speed build, then slow back down, then let it build, etc, etc. I drove my first 3 years OTR with no jake brake.
