western express was using the dedicated securement points. Do you carry 20 binders? I carry a lot of #### and i only have 17. That’s what he would need for 5 machines.

You can say that with a lot of securement methods.

if I have one machine or even two I’m generally going to use 4 corner securement. I’m not 4-6 pieces of securement on a load of 3 skid steers and 2 minis. I would be there all #### day. Hell I’d already be cursing them for giving me a 5 piece load.

I guess I don't mind is the difference.
And i have 22 or 24 binders on each trailer, depending on the trailer.

Not to be smart but what do you haul that would require 22 binders

Could be anything from dozer tracks, C frame, blade, and also two excavator buckets, I did one of those loads a few months ago and had 21 chains on it total, or could be a turbine going to the Mica dam like I hauled 2 months ago and had 20 chains on it, or whatever else can come along. My motto is always be ready for anything. And if you think something might only need a dozen chains, I'm that guy who would rather be extra sure, so I'll probably throw an extra 4 on it just for good measure. People regularly tell me I overdo it chaining a load down, that is fine with me, they are entitled to their opinion. I feel good spending an extra few minutes throwing some extra chains on a load. Never once in 34 years has CVSE looked at me and said "that load looks like it needs a couple more chains on it" instead they tell me it looks great, and continue on. I drove a skidder onto the trailer yesterday in Quesnel, and put 8 chains on it. The guys watching at the logging company didn't mock me for it, instead they commented how nice it was to see someone that cares about safety. I understand that 90% of truckers would have thrown on 4 or 5, but I was happy with 8.

At least he didn’t throw 2 2inch straps on each and go.

    But that’s just lazy

Two chains per skid steer is enough. I’m happy you’re proud of your securement though, you’re a superstar.

I will not say this applies to everywhere, because I don't know what the regs are in other places. But here in BC they really want to see a machines tools chained down as well, could be a bucket, blade, cutter, processor head, grapple, or whatever. But if its a quick detachment tool they treat it as its own separate entity, and it has been a long time since I have hauled anything like a skid sterr that HASN'T had a quick detachment coupler holding on its bucket etc. So they expect it to be chained down extra firmly as well. Trust me they really look closely here for adequate chains on everything. That skidder I moved yesterday, 4 chains on the machine itself, 2 on the blade, and 2 more on the grapple. Had to go over 2 scales, and both made me park, and had a look. They told it was good, and away I went. Those same 2 scales stopped us on the way up with a Dangle head processor on a Volvo 300, 10 chains on it.

Here is the states it’s different. Under 10k machines fall under the General securement rules. The attachment is not even required to be secured. I still do but usually with the front chains since it easier to avoid scratching the new paint.

I guess our dot in the states is more relaxed then in BC. In the past 3 year of hauling 16-20’ wide loads I’ve never had my securement checked when showing my permits. Not one time. And only two mandatory level one’s in Ontario after a coworker got off route and shut down the 401. 2160A0BA-D8A6-44A8-9418-D1CEA09025E4.jpeg 9BB9953B-AB98-4715-9969-128F2E260A80.jpeg

    In the states:

Under 10k pounds wheeled or tracked only requires two chains minimum. BUT any attachment/blade/bucket/whatever must be either mechanically locked into place or chained down. (so if god came and flipped your trailer over, that bucket wouldn't move). Hydraulics alone aren't enough.

So a skid steer, one in back (there's usually welded on shackles on each corner) and then one in the front but you must somehow get it over the bucket. (to hold it down). or you have to throw another for the bucket.

Over 10,000lbs requires 4 chains (minimum). So for example a Backhoe (which usually weighs in that 25,000lb range ish) requires a minimum 6 chains. (1 for each corner, one for the loader bucket, one for the backhoe)
