The first half of the problem
8\2 = 4
Now for the second half
( ) Means that whatever is inside that you do.
(2+2) = 4
Now take the left answer and divide against the right answer = 1
If math people put in more equations, then you work left to right solving each group.
Just like axeling a big rig savvy?
Can you solve 8÷2(2+2)?

These "only geniuses can solve" arithmetic problems are not hard problems, they are poorly written problems that intentionally lead to multiple answers.88 Alpha, FlaSwampRat and tinytim Thank this. -

In America school educators at the Board Level and State Levels around the time of 9-11 was not satisfied with students writing down say
24
+50
_____
74 done.
Oh no.
This is what Common Core wants new students to do
24
50
You work your way vertically
Then you come back up the tree subtracting as you go
Then you fiddle with the numbers around and to the side bar in a certain way
The result is a student scratching out about 6 lines of paper to come up with 74.
Basically puffed up BS make work crap.
I would burn down any school that teaches that crap. 3000 years of Arabic Number System and today's educators muck it all up.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
Ok, I had to Google this, how can it even be two answers? It just does not have sense. Apparently there is. I just hope people who build spaceships or autonomous driving machines stay on the same page

Simplify first...
8/2(2+2)
8/2(4) which is the same as: 8/2*4
Left to right
8/2*4
4*4
16
If it was
8/(2(2+2)) the answer is:
8/(2(2+2))
8/(2(4))
8/8
