i got my CDL november 2016. my first year was filled with trials and tribulations. i left OTR as quickly as i started it, went local within months. i started my local driving adventure with a couple of seasonal jobs.... when that ended in 2017 i went to walton milk hauling. i have been doing farm pickup for walton since and november marks two years..... i am home daily and yes i work allot but i think im making a decent buck for local. i just passed 42K and we still have 4 more months to complete the year. i dont think that's too bad for running an assigned local route in a day cab. i have 8 farms in total that i deal with, i know where i am going everyday. some say that's boring but its consistency and i never find myself in a situation of ending up where i dont belong lol. the barn sheet is a record at the farms of when i pickup milk, usually the times are +/- 15 minutes everyday...... it has consistency and i like that. the farmers that i visit have become good friends of mine and they appreciate the good service that i give them.
how long has everyone been driving here?

7 years for me, though none OTR, and only with one employer. Have a somewhat similar deal with going to the same places, though that part isn't exciting, it's nice not having to worry about bad directions and all the other bs

I wouldn’t like the ELD’s I don’t believe but who knows. Loved stealing 15-30 minutes a day minimum. I dont know how much minimal cheating is possible now.

How do you like the 30 minute mandatory break?

4,483:05 hours according to my GPS..
Got my CDL-A 9/2016 around the same time as you.
Did my time (2 years) as a company driver for a couple Carriers and coming up on a year now since I bought my own tractor. Leased on to a great small Carrier running contract freight now that pays very well.
I’m enjoying what I do but I must say that I’m a little envious of the job you have.. I really miss being home sometimes...Rocks Thanks this. -
Yeah you dont have much life other than trucking which is great for many but not for others. Problem is OTR is addicting in my opinion. I really loved it but now live it through here and youtube lol. Coming home to a real house is nice too ofcourse lol
WesternPlains, Concorde and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
