Started driving a dump truck at 13 for my grand dad, got my cdl at 17 in MS for local stuff then at 21 started long haul on and off. So I guess 22 for me. Ive had 2 other careers that I retired from, but always dove part time. Hell, I was even a transportation officer in the Army. Last stint was as a Commanding Officer of a trans detachment.

Nobody said it yet? TOO LONG,,,but you know, after 35 years of pi$$in' and moaning, I couldn't imagine doing anything else for that long.
In another matter, Martin, hey? One of my best friends worked for Martin, maybe he still does. His handle was "Breezely". We were the best of friends for years, brothers almost, then a guy I drove for, was an O/O for Martin, stole one of Breezely's steady freddie accounts, and Breeze never talked to me again. If he is still at the company, do me a favor, tell him "the Loner" misses him terribly, thx. BTW, Martin a pretty good outfit.

My dad had trucks. He was my teacher. Out of school in 1974 age 18 started driving for him. (Semi dump).Think i drove for him 2 years. Then my own truck to present time. So 45 years i still like it but things change. Nicer equipment..but some other things worse. Was on a steady coal run for 17 years to a power plant. Strip mine coal to start with, then out of the cleaning plant. That ended..regional dry van for 10 or so, home weekends. Now rail containers. Home most every night, off weekends. So easy nowdays, and its like a expensive hobby to me. A hobby i make $ with. I don't spend time at the bars, don't hunt or fish(used to). Or golf. Ride motorcycle some. Just reading this i realize i do seem boring..lol.

this is one reason i stuck with driving as a career. for me, it’s important to make a livable wage that allows for hobbies and family/friend/free time. loving linehaul where i am, it pays and provides tons of free time. working nights sucks but it’s certainly bearable for the money and benefits. there aren’t very many high wage jobs allowing one to leave work at work.
