Go get you a job a a ltl, beer, or soda company that will train you. Most will and pay very well. You will work long days and it's labor but you get to sleep in your bed, eat your food, see your family, and have money in the bank all while getting your CDL without becoming a slave to a crap company for a year.

Southern Glazers has an ad for dock to driver program. Local liquor distributor here in Vegas. No idea on pay but they deliver to the Lees next our store every day and run decent equipment. Ad was on indeed.

I know a guy that drives for them here in Florida. I know he makes good money and seems happy. As with most delivery/localish jobs I know he works similar hours to me (4pm-4am), that's not to say that's how every job they have is but his is.

Those "dock to driver" programs are good for those wanting to stay local and also not deal with funding for cdl school.

I think it's the best way to go. When I first got my CDL it was at UPS. Starting out on the preload, then drove a package car, then they taught me how to pull a trailer and gave me my license. Got paid $28/hr to drive the truck around the yard and learn.

Werner and some other companies have dedicated accounts for "dollar stores" of various names. Dollar store accounts are notorious, especially for newbies. The stores are on tiny lots. With numerous obstacles, and often angry store employees & customers. Turnover on those accounts is higher than average. It's very easy to be hired, assigned, and fired in short order due to numerous backing accidents. I would recommend any driver to avoid ANY "dollar store" account, regardless of the store name. Good luck getting a job with 2 months experience and after being fired for backing accidents.

Hey, I know how ya feel. I got my CDL back in 2015 and never went into it right away because I made the mistake of researching trucking and read all the negative stuff that it put me off.. not to mention you have to be ready for that lifestyle of living in a truck. I would recommend starting with Schneider since they are supposedly the best of the megas out there but if you're lucky to live in an area where the better companies take new grads then go with them. Where I live I'm limited to the megas like Swift, SNI, CR England, etc. The truck school I went to (private one) gave me a 2-3 page list of companies in the area. Only about 4 companies on that list of maybe 30 offered me jobs and they were megas along with one or two odd trucking jobs like hauling soda locally (no thanks due to the heavy lifting).
