Not sure if it's fair or not, I've never been that late for anything in my life. The most I've been late on a delivery is a couple hours due to traffic. And I call to make sure everybody knows it before I arrive. If you were late 4 days due to something beyond the control of the shipper or receiver, then yeah I'd say you're on the hook for it, and probably lucky that they're even offering 50% of the original fee.

Acceptable is what you’re willing to pay. If you don’t want to pay it then don’t. I guessing the load already delivered? What can they do, blacklist you? Take you to small claims? F’em. Of course do that to much & you’ll be out of business.
FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
Well, they can just pay him half and then he can take them to court. I mean I seriously doubt he was paid in advance.

4 days late may have cost shipper way more than 1400 dollars depending on what product is and if it stalls other peoples work..

I think of one.
Got into the bottle too badly in area A staggered into truck to go to sleep on Area B. A quiet spot out of the way.
I finally got empty in Area C which is not to be named. But a major food distribution in a small state famed for corruption.
Dispatcher asked me where in sam hell have you been you empty YET?!
Yaush buss... youse tink loud? (Think on next load)
Pause.
#### IT you drink again? (Profanity and phone goes flying)
I just received about 3 days to dry out somewhere. THAT really cut into the payroll back then. Even more reason to heft a bottle. Sheesh.
Thank god those days are gone.
FAST forward to many years later. Arrive in Walmart about 8 minutes late at the gate, not the property. Snippy little wisp of a gaurd squeaked at me. Tsk, yer late. You cannot come back for 5 days.
I stood on his hat at my stomach and loomed over him saying BS. That stopped the activity in there quick.
Large female gaurd comes out saying here now watch it whats the problem. I say pipsqueak here says Im 8 minutes late, wants to throw me out 5 days. See them 50 trucks across your street? All of them want in as well.
Lady boss says that earned you 8 days ban, come back then and get a appt.
Picked up the phone to the boss. After he raged and say eff that place take that load straight back to shipper, I get you another one. They wrote off the account, wrote off the haul cost, wrote off the expected profit etc.
Boy did the gaurd squeal. Buh bye.
I aint to this day ever been back. And with good reason.FlaSwampRat Thanks this.
