Portland to Chicago

I was curious what you meant because I've never been pulled in there. One time I was pretty heavy on my steers and figured they'd take a look but nope.

 

Had one in Charlestown WVa scales westbound. Old Timer, essentially father time as it were.

I hand him a log book that reflected a total lack of understanding the entire week. He had eyes that got big for a minute, eyeballed my trainer real hard for a minute shaking out a smoke...

By the time I finish....

We were at 70 out of there off the ramp. The result was trainer kept me in that right seat log book school 10 hours a day for weeks. First the right way, the legal way, then two logbooks and three. And done.

Needless to say....

 

I used to live in Sturgis and worked for a local company going through this scale frequently. I never had a problem. Only once did I get called in. This was when I was still on paper logs. I walk in and this guy just says "Hey buddy how's it going? Don't worry we just need to do a quick level 3 paperwork check". I had brought my logbook in with me and my truck registration. He looked at the registration, asked for trailer registration. I went to get it and couldn't find it. Came back and told him and he said "No worries I can look it up'. He did that. Lastly he said "I see you got your log book". I offered it to him. He said "I don't need to see it I'm sure it is fine, have a nice day". Super friendly guy and the easiest inspection I have ever had. Don't know if his name was Roger.

In the winter,usually the best way is the north route. Gets colder up there,but almost always less snow. Wyoming,Colorado is the snow belt in the middle of the country. I remember back in the 70's there were times when the snow gates at Laramie and Walcott,would be closed for weeks. Chain up and go through the canyon on 30,but even that could be treacherous. Take the north route,less aggravation. Pipestone,4th of July,Lookout,yeah they can all get serious snow,but could always get through,sometimes hanging iron. But never saw them closed for weeks.
In the good weather,I always ran 80-30-15-86-84. Just a scenic preference.
