What's even cooler is when you get to return the favor to dad years later and take him with you.

Man that felt weird with me in the driver's seat and him in the jump seat.

However, he did manage to hog my bed while I was delivering! I had to try to nap from the driver's seat, just like I did 20 some years ago lol.

No need to apologize for anything, I find all your posts to be enlightening, whether positive or not. I'm glad to hear you're still happy. It's completely understandable to be frustrated to do so much "free" driving and waiting around, even if you were expecting it. I'd probably have a hard time swallowing it as well.

It seems like you do a pretty good job of not getting too focused on what you make on a single load, and being able to look at the big picture. I think that's why you are as successful as you have been. Instead of being stubborn and refusing to deadhead too far, or refusing cheap loads and sitting still for a week waiting, you keep moving and you keep bringing in money.

I think if I were to get into the business, I would go in with the mindset that I'm going to be in the truck 315 days of the year, and I will make about $5 to $6 per hour, 24 hours a day for the days that I'm away, whether I'm loaded, empty, sleeping, waiting, or eating. But I suppose that no matter how hard I try to convince myself of that, I'd still know that unless the truck is loaded and moving, I'm not making money.

When you have to wait 6 hours to unload, you're able to do other things, right? Catch up on paperwork, surf the internet, read a book, etc.? Although waiting sucks no matter how you cut it, it seems like the best way to deal with it is to make the most of the time.

I too noticed a difference in the tone of your posts (to me it seeemed like they have been more serious) and I mentioned it to my wife this past weekend. I wanted to ask, but did not know how to go about it as I did not want to give the impression that I was trying to offend in this virtual world. That would not have been my intention.

Bottom line is I admire and respect what you are doing and very much appreciate the assistance you have given me when I have asked a question. Your willingness to be open and honest about this industry....its ups and downs....in a public forum no less.....has been a tremendous help to me. For now...I offer a virtual "Thank You". I have even gotten a few guys at the office reading your posts and they are pulling for you (heck all you guys and gals), too.

I will be at MATS again next year...if you find yourself there, the very least I can do is buy you a nice meal......that is if you'll accept one from a lowly 4 wheeler (holds hat humbly in hand).... LOL...
