LOL, well it must have morphed in the last ten years. They had plenty of the money types back then too, but a whole lot that probably had trouble coming up with the 290 dollar entry fee they were charging.
And since when did money make one NOT be a freak, there is something wrong with a person that thinks staying a week or two in an alkali waste land listening to music running around naked coated in alkali dust matted all over them, finding their inner selves, that no amount of money can fix. lol

As far as scenery, lol My idea of some half naked or more folks covered with 3 days of sweated matted on alkali is not what I want to look at. lol But each to his own.

I'm sure the same thing was thought at Woodstock and Altamont, of which at 13 my father wouldn't let me go to, but like you said..to each his own.
I have been to many festivals, concerts and events in my day and as time passes the thought occurs, a good time was had and somebody made some dough.

I was at Woodstock. From what I remember of it...which isn't much...it was great. Some of the details are a little hazy. No pun intended.

Not saying that they aren't mostly freaks it's one of the reasons why I have never gone, but I was comparing them to truckers as far as how much danger they would pose.
    They are happy freaks!

And while I am sure that there are plenty of people with 3 days of dirt on, they do have shower trailers there in addition to lots of motor homes with showers, so there are also a lot of clean people in Beach attire, and in any case, my better scenery comment was comparing it to Sturgis Bike Week where many of the people who wear the least really should wear lots more, and most people have days of bugs, sweat and exhaust fumes caked on.
So I am not saying that either is an ideal situation, just comparing ;)

Them showers only last till they step back outside of the shower, any breeze covers them right back in alkali. P am not sure why they picked that location, I read the reason once, it seemed like it was the only place they could get that would allow them to come back year after year, but I do not remember the details.

When you say happy freaks, well when you have thousands upon thousands of freaks on various drugs, or even sober, all will not be happy. period.
I rode bikes all my life and never gave sturgis a thought either, but would be able to relate to outlaw bikers better that what I have seen going to burning man.

How many here can afford to participate in such a freakish event?

You have to remember, the Hippie culture grew out of children of well to do parents. They were against the way their parents got the wealth. But, they had money so they could sit around, blow smoke and not have to work. Then, then less advantaged decide to join the culture as hangers on the those that had funds and became the leeches. Fast forward 25 years and the former "HIPPIES" are the well to do parents that are CEO's of the current crop of tech companies. And their children are now group that have the opioid problems.

The VA tried to get me hooked on Vicoden until they had the Candyland incident at the Tomah Wi VA , and I ended up having back surgery and getting it fixed right.
    Good story to read.

I just looked up ticket prices for the event. They range from $990 to $1,200 per person, plus an $80 per vehicle entrance fee.

All I said was nothing to fear from the freak there, I don't know that I would take them home for dinner either.
