Was driving from Phoenix to Ontario CA on the i10, approaching the Banning weigh station the line of trucks was all the way to the freeway. I stopped and waited a bit as cars were flying past me
I decided to change lanes once I got the chance and kept going, didn’t stop at the scale.

Why in the world would they still have trucks stop at the scale when it’s backed up to the freeway?
All about safety huh, yeah, sure felt safe standing in the travel lane with cars passing by at 70+ miles per hour a few feet away.

Anyone else do this? I kept looking back for a chaser, no one came.

I'd be more worried about some corndog in a truck rear ending you. But yeah I would of keep going too.

Some scales have signs that tell you to bypass the scale if the ramp is full.

I believe there’s a shirt that reads “ I survived the banning scale” or something like that.. I just don’t bother stopping there ever... or any scale in California for that matter.

Lepton1, Intothesunset and Bean Jr. Thank this.
  8. yeah goes back to the early 90s those t-shirts

    S M D, Zoltan1a and Intothesunset Thank this.
  9. because through the years in the republic of California people are scared crapless of the banning scales..
the stories are real some just don't want to be bothered or end up being another casualty..
so they patiently wait their turn to approach the scales not doing anything to aggravate them..
mother sitting in line if the sign doesn't say bypass the scales when it comes to banning that's just the way a lot of people roll...

    Trucker61016 and Intothesunset Thank this.

I always went past them in CA if they were full. Totally unsafe to sit on the shoulder like that. Never got chased down but maybe I was lucky. Bypassed and empty open scale in Santa Nella once by accident at got off of I5 and went into McDonald’s out of paranoia. Got made fun of when I got back to the yard.

Things sure are lenient down there.
Blow past a scale here and say goodbye to thousands of dollars and your license, plus a hefty tow truck bill when they have it impounded.

Lepton1, AModelCat and Intothesunset Thank this.
