Ltl , food service , OTR Life?

    I've been doing linehaul for a year now and love everything except the schedule cause im a extraboard driver and im at the bottom. Im on call. I work early mornings, afternoons, late nights everything. The only downside is being on call and having no schedule.

    LMAO Years ago, yes. Now days, you can be overweight and get hired, no more tests other then DOT physical and drug test. We had a guy on chain pushing 400lbs.

    Up at 1230am Monday-Friday, leave DC around 215-230am. 9-10 hour days Monday through Thursday, 11-12 on Friday. 600-900 cases a day, 10-12 stops, expect Friday, up to 20 stops, drive a 500 miles a WEEK, lol.

    What is this work physical test? I know with flatbed you had to lift a tarp and what not is it similar to that with FS?

    You have to lift some weights and stuff, every company is a little bit different about what you have to do.

    I consider food LTL or Dedicated to restaurants a 24/7 situation.

    It depends on the exact situation. For example I would have Darden load the trailer for 4 resturants in the NE for a weekend, and I will deliver to the first three, grab bunk time in CT for sunday which is the last of the delivery.

    You not only had to be able to lump seafood some of which approach 120 pounds boxes but also watch your fingers deploying rollers etc.

    And then keep a eye for thieves who knows that big black and white MBM means very expensive seafood in there. Your losses or OSD or even not matching the customer's order exactly comes out of your check.

    That would not be all. You will be getting a 18 wheeler into very small spaces and it's not a natural situation for it. If you tried to force it in you can hurt the truck very bad.

    The other side of the coin is the meals, you always paid something after your delivery is done, but they will do what is possible to make a quality meal out of the Menu.

    Start usually around 2 am. Average around 12 hours a day. Some more, some less. Average 55 to 57 hours a week. Usually around 4000 cases, 1300 miles. Food service is hard work, but I would do it over OTR any day of the week.

    How far do you usually drive to get from stop to stop do you usually stay in the same city?
