I’ve noticed you don’t normally see step decks at night. Why is that. Even legal size, why?

We don't take all day to get the job done. lol I don't know, I usually ran till 1 or so in the morning, later if I needed to.
Cabinover101, singlescrewshaker and Boundtransport Thank this. -
My gooseneck is not a stepdeck per say, but I take lots of light weight stepdeck like freight. My trailer is very similar in dimension to the main deck of a 48' step.
I'm tucked in by 9 or 10pm usually because most the equipment I'm bringing in, is needed at the jobsite first thing in the AM. This has been my experience thus far.. -
That's how it is for most any open deck. Most of our customers are only open during bankers hours so it works best to keep our schedule to work during day light hours for the most part.
When I'm running back east I'll run from 10pm to noon the following day as a regular schedule to avoid the traffic. Get my load off first thing in the morning, hurry up and get my reload on and then head to bed to get ready for the next night shift. Most the open deck guys seem to dislike driving at night more than dealing with traffic so they just stick to the daylight hours.Last edited: Aug 14, 2019
Midwest Trucker and singlescrewshaker Thank this. -
Can’t deliver first thing in the morning if you park at 1am.
If you run all night and deliver first thing you will never get reloaded.
But if it works for you have at it?Diesel Dave and exhausted379 Thank this. -
Well you can especially if you park where you are delivering.
-
Works for me on days where I gotta get down the dang road. Less traffic; less idiotic drivers to deal with. I’m cautious if I’m in unfamiliar territory with an RGN, probably won’t start very early before sunrise in that case.
Load it up in the morning, park by 4pm, wake at 2am and ride.
You don’t see much open deck at night because as others have mentioned 90% of our customers are bankers hours. If you do see us at night... chances are we gotta go! -
It all depended when I got loaded and where I was going. I very seldom loaded one day and delivered the next, preffering long loads, so driving till midnight was no problem usually.
-
Flat deck shippers and receivers usually are only open 7-8 am to 4-5 pm. Hard to run nights, then switch back just to deliver.
-
I hate running all night, but have when I needed to many times.
I have taken open deck loads that you had to sign away four first born if you didn't run straight through. lol
