My first trip 2009 from P.E.I. to St. Johns was an adventure. This was my first trip in Canada without my mentor.
Was in Newfoundland several times after that, loved it.
SSB, be aware of the moose, it's no joke DON'T DRIVE AT NIGHT!
Even in daylight, the sun was still shining, I almost hit a moose. Three moose were crossing the road, and these moose are big!
There are a lot of accidents every year, I've seen a totaled truck after a moose accident.
Enjoy your adventure but be careful!

Kinda looks weird when it's Friday afternoon and I look at the GPS and it still says I have 2100+ miles to my destination.
Newfoundlanders must be unique, very special or a group of people who like to be different and not follow the crowd. When I spoke to my safety boss yesterday, he sent me the fuel location we use when on the island (they don't accept Comdata, so we have to pay cash), the ferry schedule and a reminder that New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are Atlantic time zone, but Newfoundland is on it's own unique time zone...1 1/2 hours ahead of the US's eastern time...(1/2 an hour ahead of the rest of the Atlantic time zone.Lonesome, Bumper, The Kraut and 1 other person Thank this. -
Look at that place on the map and you'll see that you're about as close to Ireland as you are Florida.

There are no real truck stops in St. Johns. I always parked in Mount Pearl at a gas station, check trucker path or ask some guys on the ferry where to park. Not many rest areas on the way up there, plan your trip before it's getting dark. There are some rest areas on trucker path but with only one spot. I left the ferry most time in the morning and made it to St. Johns in daylight.
