Heres what I did one time when we needed an empty trailer - I just swung into a UPS terminal, hooked up to the first empty I saw with our name on it and blazed out the gate - F em I was tired of screwin g around - never heard a word about it lol

I’m amazed any of ya’ll actually sit long. With the bottom feeder company I got my CDL with and my current one I cannot recall anytime I sat long. Maybe once I actually had to do a 34, but other times they just gave me a load with more time so I run less and recap hours. Then again I’ve never been late (that was my fault), take loads going anywhere even NYC, and prefer driving nights but will not refuse to drive any other schedule provided they add some time on the load to account for fatigue. I don’t know maybe I lucked out. Even in the recession I haven’t sat they just made me deadhead longer than normal.

You should have enough time in with the company and hire onto someone else.

I never drove for Werner, but I have done the same as far as grabbing an empty. Sometimes the company would give me an empty trailer number and if it wasn't there, I'd grab another one, but tell the company, "OK, got the trailer." When I picked up the load, I'd use the trailer number I was actually pulling so the paperwork & load would match the trailer.

I've always been paid detention pay in those situations.
Liquid Trucking does pay by the hour and it's an OTR company.
