I have used a similar technique on the dead axle bearings on a D7G before. It works well.

    Mine will be steel ones.
    It's my trailer,a 09,with all original bearings,rotors and calipers.
Plus the kingpins on axle #3 will need doing.(is a steer so it has kingpins)
I still have plenty off time ,needs to be done by July 2020, but i'm planning ahead.(if Brexit becomes a disaster,i might do them earlier while work is slow)
Bearings have around 1 000 000km,622 000 miles on them.(regional tanker work so they do take a beating)
So those i don't know if i should repack them with fresh grease or do i replace them .
Out off the 6 hubs only 3 have needed readjusting in those 10y.

Other option is i get a extra hub with new bearings on standby and replace as needed.

Option 1 is the safest bet but the most $$$$

Option 2 is the cheaper one but more risk

it it works here than not too many application left where manual bring big benefits.
as you can see with 10ton more load, it is faster since it did not drop speed while shifting, manual gearbox need another gearshift

Oxbow, Cat sdp and daf105paccar Thank this.

did you consider to find cheaper supplier for parts.
find some small retail shop that use 10m2 office space, no warehouse, no famous name, no lot of stuff, directors, board members, company cars etc.
you will be surprised by price difference.
they usually work with 10% or less margin, big names work with 45-50%

only problem is you need to know exact part numbers you need, as they usually have no knowledge
