Also while LTL linehaul is pretty gravy IF you can work nights. A lot of LTL guys here have been at their companies for awhile. So they have the gravy runs and day runs. One big thing which LTL guys take for granted of the general trucking public is a lot of OTR drivers don’t want or can’t work nights. Also a lot of these guys don’t want to unload even with a pallet jack or fork lift. Early in my driving career I didn’t want to work nights and felt I couldn’t hack it. I didnt want to unload either cause I spent 7 years delivering furniture. But after 6 years I made the change and I wanted to make the LTL big bucks. I learned how to deal with it and was kind of in a beggars can’t be choosers situation.

While LTL is high paying a lot of drivers don’t want the lifestyle or some can’t really do it.

I could do regional, but preferably flatbed and not for less than 90K a year.

I have a CDL. I wish to be home every day. I wish to have good benefits. I wish to make great money. I found a job that offered me all that.

But if you want to be away from home and make your money...there's a place for that in the industry as well.

I'm not gonna say one is "better" or more legitimate than the other. I will openly tell you I couldn't hack it OTR. But a lot of OTR guys couldn't hack LTL and LTL-adjacent jobs, as well. We do what we want to do, and that's okay. It's all driving.

I actually sought out a night linehaul job. I'm on my 30 as we speak. I prefer driving at night because of the lack of traffic. I run from Tampa, Jacksonville, Miami and back so all super congested areas that I can just skate thru most of the time. Someone on here figured out for me that to make what I make now I would have to get 60cpm and 3000 miles a week if I were to go otr. I don't see many jobs out there like that, not saying there isn't but not many. Line haul is cake work at least for what I'm doing. The worst problem with the most work I have had was actually today building my set of doubles in a monsoon lol. That was at 4 and I'm still soaked lol.

No, bro. Swift is well-known in the industry for taking care of its drivers.

That was good. I felt like I kept a straight face. Could you tell?

You're right. I'm sorry, I shouldn't be taking out my jealousy on you. On a serious note tho I considered driving for them just to try otr figuring if I could survive there I could really do the otr thing so I guess it could be good for that but I just couldn't do it. That's not to say it's that bad of a place for everyone, they have guys with years in that love it there but even those guys will tell you that you aren't gonna get your ### kissed and you aren't gonna make a killing lol.
