Question about chain

    Right. When I bought the red American made, I cant recall if they didn't carry or just was out of stock on the 5/16-3/8... But regardless was just trying to show the difference of a much better product.

    I think that red binder is a Columbus McKinnon. It’s a good binder, probably rated at 9200#. The problem with the spring is it’s a push spring not a pull spring. They yellow one has a spring under the ball that can be replaced. Try a Lebus binder if you get a chance, they’re sweet.

    Correct, as I stated in my post the red binders are in fact Columbus Mckinnon.

    The yellow binders have double sided rivets holding them together, I dont have the press needed to reassemble them nor do I think it would be worth the time considering they cost about $23 each.

    I've looked up Lebus, where have you found the best price on them? I've searched and haven't found the answer are they 100% Made in USA? I would think so as they certainly arent cheap... I'm surprised Lebus website doesn't indicate that, atleast not that I can find...

    Shows they are located in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

    Lebus are made 100% in the USA by Crosby, I get them at our rigging house.

    I did the same thing with straps. I had a load of shingles on one day. I cut a dozen straps down so I had about 3 or 4 feet extra over the shingles. I rarely use long ones anymore. Not having to deal with 10 foot of extra strap is pretty nice.

    I have done that a lot anytime I had multiple loads of the same thing.
    Just about all the guys hauling mud does or should, in winter the straps are frozen and there is no reason in this world to deal with an extra 15 foot , just because you can.
    I used to haul lots of car and utility trailers to Alaska, and used 2 inch straps, I had them all cut down so I didn't have to deal with long tails. In fact I bought 10 foot straps, right from the trailer manufacturer usually.

    most of the guys I run with keep 10-12 4’-8’ long 4” straps. A lot of the bigger stuff we haul is secured to the pallet and we can strap over the load anyway. With winches on each side of the trailer we just run the short straps to the fork tubes or over the 4x4’s that make up the pallet.

    I always carried lots of straps, and since I pulled a step some were 40 footers. I marked them all so I didn't throw one over that was too short. lol

    Speaking of marking straps. I would mark a strap for the width of a steel tarp. Just so I could easily tell if I needed more than a 4' drop tr tarp.
    Some of those odd shaped loads are hard to guess.
