Market is tough right now just keep it simple until rates improves then you can have more negotiating power, don't accept any load less than $2 per mile and keep your deadhead 100 miles maximum, if you can find a carrier with contract rates it's gold right now, also know what region to run to minimize longer deadhead stay out of the south, southwest area you will be good. Midwest is alil better at the moment

    Really?

He seems to have a grip on it and needs to hear what some of us take as the more important of the cut.

Thanks for sharing drivers. No worries about harsh or negative tones. I know it's not always sunshine and rainbows in business. I appreciate the honesty.

The company I contacted pays company drivers .70 cents loaded, .30 or .35 cents empty. If he can pay a driver that, an o/o should be able to make ends meet too? The reason I would like to own the truck is to be able to keep it maintained. Came from a company that skimped on maintenance and the truck I was assigned burned up while on vacation. They've had several trucks burn up. Also would like the flexibility because we're small acreage farmers and I would need a week here and there for that.

They pay .70 cents per mile and .35 cents empty but do the drivers actually get paid and get enough miles? Are they short haul or long haul? What kind of trailers? I had a driver who works for an owner operator come to my office the other day. The truck owner currently is leased to an outfit that pays $1.15 all in to the O/O. The driver was telling me he has not been paid in 2 months and wants to become a O/O asap. I simply told him if you couldn't figure out your boss would not be able to afford to pay on a $1.15 a mile you are not ready. Bottom line is all scenarios are different make the calls in your area see which offers you receive and I'm sure this forum will be able to assist better.
