The point was not whether or not my trainee broke a law. The point was he was stopped because the officer thought his headlights did not work! Any officer worth his own salt would have just let him go. What kind of officer gives out violations for not having your headlights on at sunset. o_O

The kind that is enforcing the law would be my guess.

  5. somebody that simply abides by the law that is written for them to enforce and uphold..
just because it's 55 mile an hour and everybody's going 75 miles an hour and you get pulled over and start whining and crying because everybody else was going 75 the laws are written as they are it's up to you to obey them and it's up to them to enforce them!! simple as that.
maybe you had a trainee maybe he was a trainee who knows

Again, everyone is missing the point, but fine.

How long would it take me to compile a massive number of real examples where officers are violating laws just because they can get away with it. What would I find?
    • Not making a full stop at stop signs
    • Changing lanes without signaling
    • Speeding without the sirens on
    • Parking anywhere they’d like even if it’s dangerous
    • On the phone while driving
    • Tailgating and many more

There is a point where applying laws just because they are laws is taking it too far. What do I mean by this? For example, I as the officer can potentially give someone a violation because they were parked on the side of the road. The driver said the truck was acting up, but there are signs posted saying no parking on the shoulder. I can cite someone for driving on the left lane for one minute even though construction has closed the right two lanes on a three-lane freeway. The driver said he couldn’t change lanes after the construction zone because the vehicles wouldn’t let him. Hey, but it’s in the law books, right?

The bottomline is that you have to use your brain when applying laws and not just apply them because they are laws. If the driver can show a check engine light on his dash, this should serve as evidence of no wrong intent while parking in a no-parking zone, and therefore, voids the violation. If the driver has a dash cam that can prove vehicles wouldn’t let him move over for one minute after the construction zone, again, this should be sufficient to void the violation. But no, as some would say, it’s in the law books. The law is the law, no matter what. There is a reason why laws are constantly being changed or revised. They are not perfect in any way, shape, or form.

    Hmm I think thats better...
The only thing I tell people about cops is that it is there job to take your money, and or put you in jail if possible.
