I currently have a 14l series 60 and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Yes I know engines can be rebuilt, the reason I want another is because I am currently looking at a Cabover with a Detroit 8v92 and I really want to put a s60 in it.

Well I have a bit of experience with engine swaps, so I'll give you my unsolicited opinion.

If the cabover itself is not wired to take the series 60, I would think that right there could be more trouble than it's worth.

The 8v92 engine mounts certainly are in a different spot. So you would need the mounts for the series 60 that go onto the engine and that go on to the frame. The frame will also have to be drilled for the new mounts. The front mount may or may not fit the crossmember so you may have to fabricate a mount for that.

You have to be careful where you put those mounts because they dictate your Driveline angles. You also have to have the correct height of the engine so that your accessories will fit correctly and your exhaust will work right and the cab will come down and close on the engine correctly.

You will have to change around the plumbing for the air cleaner and is there room for the charge air cooler on the cab over? Of course you need to put that Homosapien electronic accelerator pedal on there.

Different trucks take different fan mounts. You may have a hell of a time finding the right fan Mount that will work with that radiator with the series 60 for that truck.

Then of course you will have to have your drive shafts made because that's a whole different situation there.

Your best bet is that if you want a cabover find one that has a big cam Cummins. You can buy a brand spanking new big cam Cummins from a place in North Carolina for $11,000. You'll pull the engine out put it right in and you'll be done.

When you see how all that works out you'll take that other truck with the electronic engine and you want to haul it straight to the scrap yard and you'll go to your dying days talking about how wonderful and inexpensive and reliable the big cam Cummins is and wondering why anyone would want anything else.

You'll laugh as you Cruise right on by people that are sidelined with a bad wire or a bad ground or a bad sensor or a bad ECM or a bad injector harness or any other such moronic stupidity. You will never ever ever for any reason have to go to a dealer again, and you will never ever ever ever spend even one minute chasing down the electronic Gremlins that other guys spend five and $10,000 and even more than that and still their truck isn't fixed. You will shake your head in disbelief when you hear people speak about spending 30 and $40,000 to rebuild their engine. You will be so relieved you don't have to spend $8,000 for that piece of crap that's in the exhaust on the emission trucks.

You'll sleep better at night and never worry about fault codes or d e f fluid or expensive emission repairs. You'll enjoy spending $65 per injector rather than 350 or 400 or whatever the crazy injectors cost now. If the truck won't start you don't have to worry about ECM fuses and all of the electronic stupidity that you will encounter just to start your truck. Jump the solenoid or push it down a hill and and it will run until you shut it off. Even if your batteries are completely dead open up the solenoid on the pump and no electricity needed. You will be able to get where you're going. Electronic junk can do no such thing because it's electronic junk that relies on electricity for all of its stupidity.

If you take my suggestion that will be much easier for you and simpler. And you will discover a whole new way of life that you never knew existed. You will forevermore be changed by the awesomeness of the big cam Cummins and you will never ever ever want anyting else. You will live out your days with peace and prosperity and you will even kiss your wife with more passion. What the big cam Cummins will do for you is unlimited.

    Good luck.

That was awesome, #### near moving. I’ve been such a big fan of the s60, and I absolutely hate newer “trucks”. I’m also looking at a Cabover with a 3406A. Anything to say about that? Thanks in advance.

I'm not a fan of caterpillar engines. I'm not exactly sure the differences between the A and B models but the a is the older version of that and the B is the one that's more desirable of them of what I know about caterpillar.

I don't like them mostly because they're very expensive to buy parts for. You can buy an in-frame kit for a big cam Cummins for like $1,000. Everything on caterpillar is expensive.

And I don't like that distribution type fuel pump that they use. That's very expensive to have repaired.

@AModelCat can tell you everything about that engine.

What kind of cabover are you looking at to put a detroit in?
The reason I ask, is I have been dealing on (may never get it) a cabover that has a series 60 in it. If I get it bought I will be using the engine and running gear for another project and parting out the rest of it. It could have most of what a guy needs to put a series 60 in yours.
