I've never taken a 53' flat into New York through the burroughs before, always had 48'ers. If I am reading the Nydot website correctly I have to have the spreads closed? Also can I take the verazzano narrows bridge and stay on I278 up to I495 and then exit Deer Park ave (231) and south to my destination in West Babylon?

Stay on the highway. You ain’t gotta close the axles...you might want to tho, depending on where you’re going.

VZW, Goethals, Outerbridge are all truck bridges. Goethals sometimes has truck cops setting on the Staten Island side. Verrazano used to on the Staten Island side as well when they had toll booths, I don’t recall if they still grab guys now that the booths are gone.

278 to 495 is fine. Disregard the height signs. You’re fine at 13’6 the whole way.

OP, I would call and talk to someone in shipping/receiving, who is good with directions. That person should be able to give you the best exit and route to destination. NYC is definitely one of the places to do this, so you don't get screwed up. GPS can get screwed up at times. Back up that person's info with your truckers atlas and GPS. Disregard my info if you've delivered, still good to know.
