Old Ancient Truck Stop in Manhattan

There's a couple spots across the river from manhattan in Kearny NJ.

The old philly truckstop...
The women's bathroom was upstairs by the brokers offices..
Which was fenced off on weekends. Lol
1983 brought my girlfriend on a trip and got there Sunday morning for a Sunday night delivery...
Never knew the bathroom situation till then....lmao
And I still hear about it to this day.

 

I slept there once in 2005 when I had to deliver to the Philly produce market the next day.

 

And when the Eagles had a home game, they would try to run all the trucks off so they could use it for Paid parking for the game.

 

I believe the place you are remembering was Tooley's Truck Terminal in Jersey City, NJ. Two story brick,

Was off 1,9. and 47, near the Holland Tunnel entrance with the Skyway's supports in background.

The company I worked for back then gave one of these to a jobsite foreman. He'd carry it in a holster strapped to his leg and could whip that thing up to his ear faster than a cowboy drawin' his 6 shooter. Company took it away after he ran up $700 worth of calls in a month...

 

Of course, in those days that would only be 50 calls.

Dad had one that was trunk mounted and had a handset between the seats. About the size of a car battery.
