Go back inside, buy new air lines and a wrench, come back out, rightytightyleftyloosey, "installation is the reverse of removal", and BAM! Like it never happened.

 

On your next inspection, you notice air lines appear rubbed and pinched. Call maint to get permission to have truck stop replace them while your there. Good thing your a professional driver who does a good pre and post trip insp. Other wise that could have been a road call.

 

The takeaway from this is:

"Fix what you can.
What you can't fix, blame on circumstances beyond your control."

I don't think a company cares if I broke say a axle with my last employer. Maybe I did maybe I did not. It just broke. No one is going to make a federal case of it. /snarky.

I will try to explain where i am coming from with that statement. Things break for a good reason on trucking. And if it is a honest break, it gets fixed and nothing more said about it. We should not be living in fear of some PSP or whatever the hell databases are out there fixing to remove you from being employable due to a couple of airlines breaking. In winter I break the plastic based air lines when it gets cold enough say -35 on down, turn too tight and snap, no more airlines and in a few moments no more go as your brakes lock down. (*There are workarounds but outside of this subject)

I would prefer my airlines to be based on rubber or some other natural substance that does not care how cold it is. It will take a lot to snap them. However you have to check them now and again, they get old enough they rot off.

Don't be afraid of some database marking you up as a poor driver for breaking stuff. Just don't be breaking stuff so much. HA...
