I am headed to California for the first time in a very long time. I am wondering how strict they are with the no idling law. I shut down when possible but if I'm trying to sleep and it's hot outside no point in even stopping. (But those are different laws for a different day)

Is your truck carb approved within 10 minutes years? If not I would worry.

I have a 2020 Volvo 760 but no apu or battery AC. I don't get that far south very often. Normally stay in AB, BC, WA, or OR

You can't go to California unless you have a emissions truck. So you can ilde all the time if it CARB approved. California has or had like one time permits for 1,000 miles. Not sure they do that anymore. You can just go in and hope they don't catch you if not CARB approved truck

  6. look on the side of your truck is there a little gray and black sticker that says clean idle??
if you notice where it says clean idle there's usually an outline of the state of republic of California..
you don't have to have an APU if it's a 2020 truck odds are you have a little oval sticker that's gray and black and color
if you have that then you can idle your truck if you have an APU you can idle that no problem also

You don’t need to worry about idling if you stay west of I 5 where it’s cooler, you can sleep with the windows open when it’s high 50s low 60s at night.

I was loading in Fontana on Thursday about mid day and it was in the mid 90s and I let my truck idle while loading.

I’m local in SoCal area and idle on warm/hot days. I have heard rumors in certain areas(where, I don’t know)about getting cited for idling if you don’t have that Certified Clean Air sticker. But I have never seen that kind of enforcement done. I even have idle in little industrial areas that have “no idle” signs posted and never seen enforcement done.

I have heard of people getting ticketed in Ontario at the truckstop there, but that was years ago.

Certified clean truck just mean you can travel to CA. You cannot idle period according to the law in most states. I have always idle everywhere and in California. No tickets so far. Many years ago, I have seen them CARB agents patrolling many of the Costco and Walmart DC, TA/Petro in Ontario, CA and also at the Loves in Ripon, CA. In recent years, I have not seen any CARB agents in CA. I think they are low on budget to enforce.
