The FMCSA has quietly allowed comments from stakeholders on the direction automated driving systems should take. They consider drivers as well as the general public part of the stakeholders, and the comment period is ending this week, August 28th according to Regulations.gov

I think it’s imperative that people on this forum comment in a professional manner, leaving insults and fearmongering out if possible. So far, there are only 222 comments online, that is far too few considering the impact these vehicles could have. Below is the link to follow.

To submit your comment online, go to http://www.regulations.gov, put the docket number, FMCSA-2018-0037, in the keyword box, and click “Search.” When the new screen appears, click on the “Comment Now!” button and type your comment into the text box on the following screen. Choose whether you are submitting your comment as an individual or on behalf of a third party and then submit.

There are about five or six different links that come up there that you can comment on.

Do you comment on each one of them?

I don't see the actual proposed rule to read. Do I just tell them I feel that automated systems are going to be more unsafe?

    shogun Thanks this.

I just picked the first one, and pasted the docket number, and gave them my thoughts on autonomous trucks and how I dislike them, and fear them if they break.

It looks like the third link is the original one when you go to the site. They actually ask many questions on the topic, from distracted driving, should a person controlling an ADS have a CDL, hacking concerns, HOS applications etc.

All the major players are commenting, hyping up there tech. Waymo, Tesla, Embark. CVSA and ATA also. These groups only have their self interests in mind in the name of profit.

Jumped over to the website to put in my two cents. And now I know why they don't get very many comments. That has to be one of the crappiest sites. It was constantly locking my browser. Read several interesting comments and then gave up. They should ask for some tips from Truckers Report.
