PELL GRANTS!! Yes you do not have to sign an employment contact or spend a bunch of money out of pocket. https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa You dont need all your past tax info/W2s the system uploads for you, my eligibility was based off 2017 taxes which is why I think I was awarded what I was

My journey thus far...2017 I went to a local CDL mill and got my Class B, I have been driving Quad dump the last 2 1/2 years and at the beginning of this season I finally decided I want to get my A to open more doors, so I started doing ALOT of research, TOMORROW I start training at Riverland Community college in Austin MN which I will start a thread documenting the journey. This was made possible by a $6195 Federal grant and a $1632 grant from the State of MN.
It is going to be alot more intensive than my Class be journey as Riverlands course is 22 credits and yes I could have signed contract or I could have borrowed a buddies truck and taken my class A but I've never been the one to take the EZ way and I like learning
I almost signed a contract with a Mega and because of the Truckers Report I didn't...and I'm glad thank you everyone that contributes

    R. E. West Transportation doesn't require a contract, plus you get a weekly paycheck during cdl school.
Either way, the community college is an excellent way to get a cdl.

Awesome choice! Community College was the right one for me and I think the word is getting out that they worth the extra $$.

Also, good job sharing the hints on grants and such. That's what our industry needs, more Brotherhood and fraternity.

Wait ... you already have a cdl, so this is not a proper use of the grant program.

Sorry to pee on your parade, this is an ungrade and should be on your dime.

    lovesthedrive and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

In 2009 I went to CDL school at a private school. I got a Pell grant for $2900. I just had to pay the difference of $400. Not too bad for my cdls.

    HarleyD and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

I upgraded my Class B to Class A last year at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury, Maryland with a weekend course. 4 weekends, $475.

Why would this not be proper use of grant program? Pell Grants to further education.
Not only am I going to get Class A I am also going to get hazmat, passenger, school bus, and doubles
I've paying taxes since I was 13yo in the 30 years of paying taxes I've NEVER received a federal entitlement.

Just a question or 2. Why didn't you wait until after the construction season to go to school for the class A? Does the company you're with now have class A trucks and are you going to work for them later? I was just wondering on the timing.
I don't know if I'd want to do construction up here in the midwest as I don't know of any companies that allow a worker to take vacation from April through November.
I don't begrudge you for using a grant either. If you're a tax paying citizen, ie a contributor to society that's fine. It sounds like you are so thank you.
I know I wouldn't qualify for any aid as I'm married and our income would be too high so I get to pay for other people. I'm surprised you did with the income you'd have as a driver now.

    HarleyD Thanks this.
