The longest time I have been snowed in anywhere was just east of burlington at the fling J, I want to say Haw river or something like that .
Five days no cooks, waitresses or anybody else came or went, we had truck drivers wearing aprons helping out and serving coffee, doing dishes and what ever, they could.

If this is your attitude towards the job you won’t make it long. If this company is that bad, quit, and work somewhere else. They were trying to cover their freight since you ran out of hours. You need to communicate with dispatch until the problem is resolved. You were more focused on getting home and went to bed instead, missing their phone call. And you ruined another drivers night by calling the cops. You weren’t parked at an isolated location, you were at a truck stop. Just pull back the curtain and see what they want. Sometimes a guy may need a spotter backing in next to you, will you call the cops on them too?
If you wanted to be a stickler, just go on duty, drop it, and go back to sleeper. You were there long enough, you could have done an 8 hour sleeper at that point and called it a split break and it wouldn’t have interfered with your day. You made a mountain out of a molehill.
What did you expect them to do? They have to keep the load moving. You missed their phone call. They weren’t rudely yanking you out of bed. Not every day goes as planned and sometimes that means a long day for you. Next time communicate better until you have an answer from the office and answer the door, unless you’re parked in an isolated area.

What if someone was trying to wake him up because his truck was on fire? Or maybe the truck next to them was on fire and they wanted them to move so their truck wouldn’t catch on fire, Jeeze

Its normal to not appreciate being told what to do. Humans are a tribal animal and we typically can take orders from an authority figure, but peers and subordinates, most folks have a hard time. We appreciate a hierarchy a bit like a pack of wolves, but more sophisticated. When one of my codrivers tells me to do something, immediately my pride kicks in. But I hide it and do it if it makes sense, if not I just ignore it. It gets easier to do as you get older. Mostly it doesn't really matter anyway because that's just how they are. It's not an indication that they think less of you. If it makes sense just do it, it's in your best interests anyway.

You missed the phone call and didn’t know they were sending a truck so I can somewhat understand not responding to someone knocking on your truck. You could’ve gone on duty and swapped, then 8 hours back in the bunk to finish your break. It would’ve changed your day by less than an hour. Karma will bite you right in your butt and you’re going to be on the other side of this story one day.

Exactly how a hand would have handled it, unless the eld would rat you out for unhooking. and I don't know what all they are capable of doing, but there is no reason I see to log out and mess up your hours.
I also feel if it is too unhealthy to get up for 15 minutes or so, this will be a loooong long rough career.

I really dont see the point in just letting someone continue to bang on the door though, is all that does is burn up more of your hours you could be sleeping.

He may have been hiding under the bunk just in case they broke in so they wouldn’t see him

The only thing the eld would show if he had to print his log roadside would be engine startup and shutdown. Idling our from under a trailer would not show movement.
