    Ridgeline said something very important.

I'll cap this and repeat in part.

Oil on brakes NEVER. EVER. Go back and put new pads on. Never accept a truck or trailer with oil on brakes.

Truckstops like TA do not focus on first class service using the best practices or new parts etc. They do too much on the cheap. And here you are. Oiled all over. What a mess.

Go back and get them to put new pads on there. All of them that has oil on it. It also goes without saying you want those drums to be free of oil as well. They collect dirt, grit and so on which becomes a surface destroying sandpaper from God that grabs onto everything and ruins it. Maybe even burn.

Go back and read Ridgelines post and then go to the truckstop and make sure they install new pads and anything else that needs to be done. If I saw that oil etc on the pads in the beginning, I would never have signed that repair bill as fixed. It will sit there until new pads are on and anything else replaced due to contamination.

Yea Vegas is awful. I got wtf food poisoning at the TA in OKC back in the day when the JBHUNT terminal was near it.

I've never heard anything good about any shop in Vegas. Probably cheaper in the end to get it towed to Kingman.

Considering the trouble you’re going through at TA... Make certain that they’re topping of the gear oil before you drive away..

Unfortunately you just can’t rely on them knowing what they are doing.

I had one done at MHC in Charlotte about 6 months ago and they didn’t top my gear oil off... Was also charged $810.xx ( seal, gasket, drum and shoes) drum had to be replaced because it was out of spec.

Just had another go yesterday and decided to do the remaining two while I was here. Same job as MHC did X 3.

I was quoted $550 each and ended up actually charging me hundreds less.. they even topped off the gear oil without me asking..

This was done at an actual Kenworth dealer.. One I’m not going to give up the location

Curious what TA charged you for the job if you care to share.

I’ve done it both ways ....... it kinda depends on how much oil .....

A slow leak that was caught right off I’d clean and use probably (also depends on life left on shoes). A catastrophic failure with oil everywhere probably replace.

One thing that does bug me is a one wheel brake job..... I try to avoid that if possible.

I dont no if its illegal but I doubt that it is. Back in the day, we used to just clean them with brake cleaner. Put them back on NO PROBLEM. Most major truck stop and shops wont do that anymore. However that is more of a "so we wont be sued" and plus we make more money selling new marked up till it's almost price gouging parts.

The labor time spent, cleaning shoes, along with cost of brake clean. Same cost as new shoes.

Not even close, cleaning is 5-10 minutes..dont remember being charged for the cleaner. They put them in that red sink machine. By time there ready to be put back on. Job is done just need to be wiped off. But like I said most shops and truck stops qint do it anymore because of so called liability. Anyway in the ops case, I'd make them put new ones on. Just out if principal if nothing else.

They replaced the hub? It should only have needed a new seal and new brake pads. What was wrong with the hub?

I can’t answer to the legality of it, but once shoes and or pads become coated in oil they are ruined.
That oil will heat when the brakes are applied and glaze the brake material.
    Always replace them.
