FedEx line haul terminal to terminal

If it's Freight, then you'll be company. You get paid very well--it varies a bit based on location, but even starting pay per mile is likely going to be more than you've ever made. Not to mention, you get paid by the hour for everything you do--dockwork, hostling, make & break, fueling, even being delayed. Yep, if you're legitimately held up, you get paid for it. Not to mention vacation, personal time, great benefits...if you've got the chance to join the Purple Posse, I'd jump on it post haste.

 

No sir. If you're Freight, you're company, unless they've come up with something new.

 

That's what I thought. Freight is a solid ### job and I would also recommend the op jump on it. I know ground uses POS contractors that generally don't pay anything. I had a friend of a friend who owns a few ground routes call me to try to get me to drive for him at about a third of what I was making at ups lol....no thanks.

 

Im not sure. We had a box out of Maine for Fed ex to run and they were in Little Rock just over 24 hours later once the box started moving out of NH. I checked the miles and it worked out for a team. Once little rock got a hold of it at the house in 30 hours after order.

This was during a recent holiday time. the 4th of July.

 

Ground is contractors, Freight is whatever is said above (company it says but I didn't know that, I thought they were contractors too) and Express is company for sure. All hourly, insurance, great benefits but low hours. Most full timers barely squeeze 35. Not a good job if you want overtime or long runs.

I worked there 25 years, last 10 in a tractor and I may've driven 2 hours a day. Yes, seriously. Express contracts out all their longer runs to Ozark, Heartland and some other megas. Anything longer than 150 miles, unless you're out West and things may run differently in the wide open spaces, is not covered by company employees.

If you want to make a good living driving a truck for someone like Fedex then skip them and go to UPS. Union and they make twice as much for the same work.

 

FedEx Freight drivers can make good money too, but like UPS you have to put in some time to get there. About half the drivers at my FxF terminal make over $100k/yr, while the top driver is over $120k.

 

Didn't know that. One of my big frustrations with that company was how p*ss poor a job they did telling employees about who they were buying, what it meant, etc. I remember for years when I drove package delivery that we were forbidden to pick up a Fedex Ground package. That's right, you walk in to a place to deliver a package and the customer says "thanks, I've got this one going out, can you take it?" No ma'am. I'm a Fedex driver but they won't let me pick up a Fedex package even though I brought you one. And they were serious. Totally stupid.

Lots of people don't know that Fedex Express and Fedex Ground are two different companies that have very little to do with each other. I'm not sure how Fedex Freight fits with that.

Also, they wouldn't let me transfer to Freight (or Ground for that matter) when I wanted to actually drive for a living. There is no way to transfer between companies (of the same name) without quitting and reapplying with the different one. Just stupid stuff.

 

Na, it is. It's a good company. If you want a good job go for it with any of the Fedex companies. I was really happy for about 15 years, just not the last 10.
