Voyager Trucking out of Newark, NJ. Anybody familiar with them?

    Hey guys. Voyager Trucking out of Newark, NJ is looking for owner operators. Is anybody familiar with this company? They want you to have you own authority, trailer rental is $400/ week. They haul from NJ and NY to a landfill in PA. They *claim* their guys gross *on average* between $3k-$6k per truck a week.

    If anybody is familiar with this company please advise. So far this deal... smells funny to me.

    I ran birdseed up to the northeast a few years back. Ran garbage back. Landfills are crap holes, at least the where i went. If your truck is nice, get ready. Recall one time i left the landfill and my truck jumped and shook when up to road speed. Stopped looked it over. Had huge chunks of clay stuck ro the rims, throwing tires out of balance. But my ? is what else do they charge for. 1200 a month is quite large to pull their trailer. If you are serious, hunt their drivers down( like fuel stop, etc) see what they think.

    Thank you. The trailer payment seems to be quite up there that's for sure. I HOPE they take care of the tires and trailer maintenance if I'm supposed to pay them that much... If they dont, that is pure craziness. I saw two of their trucks today at an intersection but if I ever come up on one of their drivers ill definitely ask a few questions.

    The trailer rental is high, the part of that is because going into the landfills tires probably could beat up a lot, and there's trailers are Hydraulics to push the load out and there's more maintenance required on them. It's still a pretty steep rental.

    I don't know if you've ever done that type of work going into a landfill, but I would never take my truck in there. That's the kind of the thing in my opinion that you need to find like a beater truck and make it. Legal and don't worry about it. It also would help if you had full lockers on the truck.

    When it rains it's really common to get stuck and the Machine will have to pull you out and it's just a very rough off road situation.

    $3,000 a week to beat your truck to hell and back is not worth it. You would have to be in the five or $6,000 range, and those guys probably cheat on their hours and speed like maniacs and work 24 hours a day.

    That's my thoughts on it anyway.

    I dunno, I see their trailers going across 78 at night quite often. Usually tooling along at the breakneck speed of 55mph or so. The trucks pulling them don't look as bad as the Amazon guys I see.....some of those Amazon guy's trucks are downright scary...

    I called them today. You need your own insurance for the first 6months and then you can jump on theirs if your driving is clean. They charge $275/week for insurance and $2000 down every year. The $2k down isn’t all at once.

    Mon-Sat most landfills are open and pay is per ton so it depends on where you are hauling out of. They have NJ,NY, and CT lanes to PA landfills. From what I hear 2 loads a day is $1k+

    Yeah I knew about the insurance part. I guess once you have your own authority it may be worth it to keep it. The insurance should go down a little after first year. With them its $275 set in stone. They take out $2k over the course of a year. They also charge trailer deposit of $1.5k or something like that in case there is damage.

    You got more info on the pay than I did. I just got $3-$6k a week. $500 per load, $1k a day sounds about right.

    Also, $1k a day sounds pretty #### good to me... After diesel, maintenance fund, taxes, truck payment etc. It still leaves enough to put a driver in the truck and pay him a respectable wage. What's your take on it so far?

    I forgot to ask them if they run at night. Did they tell you anything? NJ traffic sucks. Ability to run at night would be a blessing.

    Yes they do run at night. I've been stuck behind them many many times on the TP...and let's just say the smell during the summer is less than desirable, especially their T.T.S. trailers. I've seen company drivers run 70 mph before. T.T.S...I've seen them run 75 + mph on the TP. Probably O/O's running that fast. Peterbilt's I believe. Don't know about the O/O side, but company drivers make around $1500 a week I believe.

    I have a guy who currently works for them. He says he starts his day around 2am. The earlier the better to avoid lines and squeeze 2 loads in. All you need is a DOT#. No need to get the MC#. Trailer deposit is $1800. From what I hear netting $3k/week is very doable. May have to squeeze in a Saturday load.

    Thanks again! So far so good. It looks like an interesting opportunity. I gotta look into insurance now. That should be interesting to say the least...
