I mostly stay at motels since I started using CPAP machine. But before that I would log off duty as I don’t have a legal sleeper birth. I have never been asked by DOT. I have removed my backseat and passenger seat and have a twin bed mattress running front to back, in plain sight anytime I am being inspected.

I stayed in hotels about 3 times a week when I used to run my hotshot. The rest of the time I would just recline the seat. I prefer that position to a bed most of the time anyway.

If I was gonna do it again I would remove the back seat and install a fridge, a cabinet, a microwave, and some shelves/storage. Lol.

That's the main reason I stay in my semi, I like to carry and fix all my own meals.

I was curious if DOT was anal about it now or not.

I can send by email. I am do not know how to put it on this forum. My wife and I just left for a mini vacation. We will be back in a few days. I have a 2000 f350. I took out the center console and the passenger seat the bed touches drivers sea and passenger door. The backseat is removed and is resting on plywood. It is leveled with 2 by 4’s . I have about 80 inches long wide enough for the mattress about 30 inches overhead.

Hey what size chains is everyone using? are you guys using 5/16 or 3/8 for hotshot loads?

I use 5/16 chains, 20' long. Most of us running hotshots only carry a total of 8 of them. When you go to buy them, test fit the binders to the chain. I wanna say you'll need 3/8 binders with a 5/16 chain. Just make sure you test fit the binder hook to the chain link.

If you haven't already purchased your straps? All our guys use 2" ratchet straps with flat hooks. And we buy the 30' long straps. With some loads you'll find the common 27' that you see for sale everywhere are just to short for some loads. For instance those tall drainage pipe loads.

Yea I was looking at the 30ft straps.. instead of the 27.. I figured why not the extra 3ft. I was thinking of adding one of the slider rails though so I don't have to deal with straps laying around everywhere I can just leave them on the rail. Well that is if I can find 2" winches that slide.. I found 2" bolt ons but haven't found sliders yet.
