Will this tool work for tie rod ends?

Yea the tool you have is made for seperating the knuckles... Its called a "pickle fork".

Place tines between knuckle and ball joint, then hit the end with a big hammer... Might take a few good hard smacks.

 

This removes them without damage to reuse. A steel bearing on the inside hits on the center of the stud with no damage to threads, boot or taper.

 

that's kinda wide, like for ball joints. a tie rod tool would be narrower.

 

A bolt the same size and pitch as the tie rod and 2 nuts works great too. Plus its free from the shop bolt bin lol.
