    Hi

My truck was leased to some company in California and I paid for the base plates. Now I have got my own authority and everything however I was wondering if I can still use those California plates until they expire which is in November. I talked to the owner of that company and he doesn’t have any problem with if I use till November.

No. You have to get your own.

Essentially the plate belongs to whomever paid for it. If they don't have a problem you using it, I would make sure to get it in writing.

Only thing is that none of the info on the cab card is going to match up. Dot# insurance

That doesn't matter. In those states that require you to be leased to a carrier before you can get a plate, they put that carrier on the cab card. Then you take your truck and plates to a new carrier, do you bother to get a new cab card? I've never heard of somebody bothering to do that.

I’m not a cop, but I can see where they could say the cab card is invalid if the info doesn’t match. On my cab card it says carrier responsible for safety and lists the carrier name, and insurance. If I were the previous carrier no way would I let someone run a cab card listing me as responsible for safety.

You rent a truck from Ryder and it doesn't match either. Where do you see they have to match?

The Op has a new authority and the chances of being inspected are pretty close to 100%.
I was inspected at the first scale I went in.

If you get a rental truck aren’t you supposed to put your name and dot number on it?

If the OP runs CO and WY a lot of keep running the plate he has. That way he gets checked in under the old company still. Lol

No matter what you two are saying, the op needs to get new plates - period.
