Hope none of you had any intermodal pickups or deliveries in that yard-they might be a little late!

If they are going to be late, might as well go home. Get a new appt next week when all of that is sorted out.

Didn't this just happen a week ago? Thought I heard about a train accident in Illinois last week.

The concern is that they likely use relatively untrained conductors to run locomotives with remote control in that yard. When one considers the effect that a tank car with 75 tons of non-odorised propane, chlorine, or this methyl ketone stuff could have if released, it can provoke outrage at how little actual safety concern there is at large corporations if there's a profit in not doing so.
But self-driving trucks should be just fine. All the people that own those companies have private jets, so no worries. -
I met a guy who worked for Norfolk Southern in a repair shop.
I could have asked him annoying questions for hours.
"Why don't locomotives have sleepers? There's more than enough room."
"How far do you go in a day? How often do you 'work from home'?"
"Why do some engines sit on a siding for days at a time? Do guys only run them at the behest of a client on that line? Does it pay enough that you can get buy driving that train a few days a month?"
Guys were complaining about cutbacks and the day of the solo engineer/conductor were coming soon. -
From the way I’ve been seeing Norfolk Southern trains running everywhere you’d never know they were having labor struggles.

Well that conversation was years ago.

Follow up story says they suspect train-handling as a cause. NS,S.
